Many positions with medical manufacturers are usually direct to hospitals or nursing homes with 1 or 2 nights away per week quite common.  The path to get into medical sales is most commonly through pharmaceutical or business products or services. The b2b is generally more interesting to hiring managers due to the real selling & closing that has to be done along with development of prospecting skills. Pharmaceutical usually has a better base salary, but not necessarily more total money, more relationship activities, exposure to the health care industry, terminology, although somewhat limited commission or incentive opportunities and almost no closing or order taking activities. Many medical hiring authorities discount pharma reps because of this, along with the fact that many pharmaceutical companies have structured their team, pod or group for performance calculations, making it very difficult to accurately ascertain an individuals specific document track record. The documented business to business track is easier to present to a medical hiring managers and usually more accepted as true business development experience which can maximize the likelihood of successfully navigating the interviewing process and allow one to be selected to receive an offer of employment.
Those with non-medical selling experience can break into the industry with A verifiable track record from business products, telecommunication products or services, consumer health and beauty aids, food service, publishing, software, advertising, retail management, payroll services, office furniture, computer training or any outside business development experience. Priority is given to those that have been above average performers!
Our clients usually require a 4 year degree, a 3.0 GPA is helpful. Those with the ability to relocate will have many more opportunities available to them.
